Coping
As you learn to cope with your skin disorder, it may take time for you to find the best way to make yourself feel better and get a sense of control over the emotions that often follow. You may discover that finding a safe way to vent your emotions, perhaps by journaling or by meeting with a counselor, will help you to gain perspective on a day-to-day plan for success and peace of mind. Many skin patients with a chronic illness benefit immensely from seeing a counselor or psychologist. Patients find that talking with other skin patients online or in a local support group can also be tremendously helpful. Search for any form of humor you can find, resume or begin a creative activity, find a time and place where you can exercise, even mildly, for short periods each day. Find any and all healthy distractions that will relieve the stress and sadness that often follow skin illness diagnoses. Our Discussion Forums are a great place to find a sense of community, support, and information, too.
